ViruTech Anti-Virus Warning System
and Vaccine.
I. Introduction
Viruses. We hear about them in newspapers, magazines, and on television.
All of us in the BBS community are afraid of downloading a program that will
infect their computer system, and most people aren't sure what to do about
it. Well, by using this program, you will be on your way to a virus free
enviornment.
II. Setup
The first thing you need to do to use this program is to create a file
called VTECH.CFG. In the file, on the first line, put the drive where
you will have the MASTER DOS disk. On the second line, put the drive of
the disk you are BOOTING from. A sample hard disk setup is included.
Example:
C>COPY CON VTECH.CFG
A:
C:
^Z (Control-Z)
1 File(s) Copied
C>
Now, you must put VTECH.EXE in the boot directory and add the word
VTECH to your AUTOEXEC.BAT file so it will run every time you start your
computer. (It takes about 3 seconds to check for a virus). When you boot,
make sure you have the master DOS disk in the drive you specified in the
first value of VTECH.CFG.
III. In Case of a Virus
If a Virus is detected, the program will give you instructions on what to
tell Vaccine. For example, if it says:
"Possible Virus Detected! Type VACCINE /1 to fix!"
Then you would:
C>VACCINE /1
You will need to have your master DOS disk in the drive you specified in
VTECH.CFG for the vaccine to work. After running the program, run VTECH
again to make sure you eliminated the Virus. If it gives you another
instruction (like VACCINE /2) then do it. Some Viruses will infect several
areas.
IV. Disclaimer
Although this program has been tested and found to have a 100% Virus
detection rate, I do not guarentee that it will find every Virus. New
Viruses are always being written, so you never know... However, newer
versions of VTECH will be able to handle more Virus types.
